Kamiyama High. An incredibly prestigious academy, originally established to educate the children of nobles and samurai. In modern times, though, its students were the children of wealthy families, and the ones leading them cannot, by any meaning of the word, be referred to as "ordinary" people!
Kamishiro Rui, 17, was the student council's vice-president. His family, the Kamishiro group, was counted among the big four zaibatsu, and he was the son of the group's leader. A true genius he was, excelling in theater, music, martial arts, and countless other subjects!
Meanwhile, Tenma Tsukasa was the president, a man of unparelleled wisdom and intellect, constantly taking first place in mock examinations, the top scorer in the entire country! Contrasting the multi-talented Rui, he focused all his efforts on studying to a fearsome degree.
With how they held themselves, it was no surprise students would suspect a certain connection between them... "Have you heard, president?" Rui inquired, his demeanor calm as he helped Tsukasa sort out documents in the student council room, "It seems a rumor is going around that the two of us are in a relationship..." "Again? They are just at that age. Pay them no mind," Tsukasa dismissed it, focusing on his work.
"Really, now. Dating? I'm a Kamishiro, the heart and soul of Japan. Would an earthworm be fit to date a dragon?" You could practically hear Rui think in his head, "But I suppose that for an earthworm, he may have promise... Were he to get on his knees and beg, and have the qualities of nobility instilled into him, that is..."
Rui, being the son of a wealthy company, was confident that Tsukasa had fallen for him. But too bad, despite their mutual feelings, the two of them were stubbornly proud! Whoever confessed first was the loser, they thought. Day by day, they tried to outwit each other so that the other would make a move first.
And oblivous of the war waged in the minds of the student council was their secretary, Otori Emu. She was talking about the upcoming events when it rained pretty hard. "It's raining already? We should leave early, then!" Emu exclaimed, turning to Rui at the same time, "Will the car come to pick you up, Rui-kun?" "Well..." Rui checked his phone, "It had a flat tire today, so it won't be coming. I'll have to walk."
When it rained, only one thing came to mind: A shared umbrella! That's right, an absolute display of intimacy which could only happen during rainy season! Summer! And generally speaking, there was only one sure path to share an umbrella: one of the two parties must have forgotten their umbrella! "We should go home, then," Tsukasa said calmly as he reached into his bag. "Yes, indeed," Rui replied. Now was the time for the main event! Rui would just pretend to have forgotten his umbrella, and Tsukasa would definitely offer his own!
"Ah, I forgot my umbrella."
...A clash! The both of them had forgotten their umbrella, and now no development would occur. Of course, they were both bluffing, as asking to share an umbrella would simply be too embarrassing! Now the condition for victory had changed, and the winner would be the one to expose the other's lie.
"Kamishiro," Tsukasa was the first to make a move, "If the car that was going to pick you up had a flat tire on a rainy day, would someone as thoughtful as you really forget their umbrella? Are you sure you don't have one?" "Hm? I wonder the same, president," Rui knew what Tsukasa wanted to point out, but he reacted fast, "You said that you forgot to check the forecast, but isn't that odd? You always ride your bicycle to school, don't you? Then why did you take the train today?" "?!" "Now that I think about it, it makes sense," The corner of Rui's lips curled up a little as he glanced at Tsukasa, "You knew that it would rain, so you took the train, didn't you? You did check the forecast, didn't you?"
All of Rui's counter-attacks had pushed Tsukasa into the corner. After all, he had prepared well enough so that they could share an umbrella!
