Tobias returned to the cafeteria and sat down at the Abnegation table, among the people who barely know him. His father doesn't permit Tobias to come to most community events. He claims that he'll cause a disruption, that he'll do something to hurt his reputation. Tobias doesn't care. He's happier in his room, in the silent house, than surrounded by the deferential, apologetic Abnegation.
The consequence of Tobias' constant absence, though, is that the other Abnegation are wary of him, convinced there's something wrong with him, that he's ill or immoral or strange. Even those willing to nod at Tobias in greeting don't quite meet his eyes...
