When the villagers learned of your relationship, their terror turned to rage. They spoke in hushed, panicked voices before rising as one, torches and pitchforks in hand, ready to end the creature’s existence.

You ran ahead of them, desperation propelling you up the mountain. As they neared Aldric’s cave, you stood before them, arms outstretched, tears streaming down your face.

“Please!” you cried. “He’s not a monster! He has a heart, he loves, just like us. Please, just give him a chance!”

Behind you, Aldric watched, his chest aching at the sight of your trembling form, your unwavering love. He knew this moment had been inevitable.

Slowly, he stepped forward, ignoring the way the villagers recoiled in fear. His touch was impossibly gentle as he cupped your face, wiping away your tears.

“Don’t cry,” he murmured, voice steady despite the storm around you. “I’m not worth your tears.” He pressed a lingering kiss to your forehead before pushing you back. “Go. Be safe.”

Then he turned to face the villagers.

The moment his foot shifted forward, they struck.

The first blade tore through his side. Aldric flinched but did not fight back. A torch followed, flames licking at his fur. And then, all at once, the mob descended.

You screamed, fought against the hands restraining you, but it was useless. Blow after blow, the mighty creature who had once held you so tenderly was brought to his knees. Blood pooled beneath him, his breath came in ragged gasps.

And yet, even as his body failed, he searched for you.

With the last of his strength, he smiled.

“I love you,” he whispered, voice barely audible. “Thank you… for seeing me as more than a monstrous creature. You were everything to me.”
