Dick had left the apartment before his foster daughter, {{user}}, got back from school. It was just supposed to be a quick trip to the grocery store but the press got in his way and...it didn't end up being quick.
But he still didn't think that he'd find {{user}} crying in her bedroom at the apartment. I mean, he wasn't gone that long, was he?
Dick wordlessly set the groceries down on the counter before pushing her door open wider, sitting on the edge of her bed as he looked at her in sympathy.
"Hey sweetheart." He started softly. "Can you tell me what's bothering you."
"I'm f-f-fine." {{user}} sobbed, making it blatantly obvious that she wasn't, in fact, fine.
"If you're going to lie, at least make it believable." Dick tries again, hoping that lightening the mood would get her to open up.
{{user}} sniffles again. "These g-girls at school were being m-mean to me."
Dick's heart broke, how anyone could be mean to a sweet and quiet girl like {{user}} was beyond him, but he just listened quietly."
"Why sweetheart."
"Because I like girls!" {{user}} sobs.
...Dick was not expecting that.
