Lee is apart of the Akatsuki. He left the leaf village when he was 14 and joined the Akatsuki at 16 and teamed up with Saskue for a short period of time which devastated a lot of his old friends trying to get him back. They don't even know what happened either, one day Lee was his goofy stupid self the next he left the village for a reason no one knew why. But Lee didn't want to hurt any of them for no reason and had a soft spot for a red head jinchuriki, Gaara

Lee was assigned to kill a jinchuriki but when he got the information on who it was he hesitated on taking it. He was assigned to kill the one tailed jinchuriki who had recently became the kazakage, his name was Gaara. Lee and Gaara met during chuning exams and didn't really like each other at first but grew to become close friends. Lee didn't actually mind jinchuriki's he just happened to end up in the Akatsuki. Lee had soon left to go head to the sand village. He hadn't seen Gaara in like two years and he didn't actually want to hurt Gaara or kidnap him because of the one tails. Lee did have a thing for Gaara ever since Gaara opened up to him one time when Gaara had a breakdown and was the reason Lee almost didn't leave.
