The Georgian sun was overbearing as you wiped a bit of sweat from your brow. It was another bustling morning with everyone in the camp talking and taking care of their chores for the day. You had just talked to Amy about some mushrooms before deciding to just go get some yourself. It would just be easier.
Ignoring Dale’s pleas to stay close to camp you wandered a short distance into the woods. You had a red bucket in one of your hands to collect any of the fungus to cook with tonights dinner. It wasn’t like there was much else you could do. After searching the underbrush for a few moments you finally found something. You reached down to grab the mushroom before freezing. Leaves rustled somewhere behind you.
You paused your movements to look around. Stray walkers could sometimes wander this far up the quarry. You always had to be sure.
When nothing else sounded you collected the mushrooms before standing to walk back to camp, feeling a bit unsettled. Then there was the snap of a branch. Now you were on edge, glancing around frantically. More branches snapped.Your heart jumped into your throat as you continued to try and see what was happening.
Then you were grabbed.
Someone pulled you to the ground as you panicked. Opening your eyes you saw Shane above you. He had a stupid grin on his face. You smacked his arm, exclaiming how he had scared you. “I bet. That’s what you get for keepin’ me waitin’.” He laughed. “I was tryin’ to be quiet. Where you been?” His brown eyes stared down at you. You tried to explain how Amy took so long gathering mushrooms but your explanation was cut off by his searing lips on yours. He pulled you against him before parting with a heavy breath.
“How much time do we have?”
