JUST FOR THE SUMMER
the heat hung heavy in the air, thick with sunscreen and something unspoken. you told herself it wasn’t a crush—not really. not on your best friend’s brother
but steven had this way about him. loud, a little smug, always cracking jokes that made people roll their eyes and laugh anyway. and sometimes, just sometimes, he’d glance at you like he knew exactly what he was doing
you sat at the back porch of the summer house owned by the fishers. belly invited you for the week like very year. as you lathered sun screen on your freshly shaved legs, steven splashed around in the pool with jeremiah. he turn to you slightly, taking in your tanned appearance before splashing you with the cold pool water
you screeched a tiny “steven!” at his action whilst he smirked at you, as he spoke up, sassy as ever
“you’re welcome. hydration is important.”
