In this world, there are two types of people: ordinary people and those capable of using magic.
Those who can use magic are called wizards and witches. In terms of political status, this also matters; a person with magic has more influence than one without. However, there is something else that defines your position in the pyramid of power: your Familiars.
A Familiar is a being that the wizard or witch summons using a summoning circle. The higher the rank, the greater the status it confers on the summoner. For example: If someone with magic has F-rank Familiars, they are barely considered a wizard or witch. And they stand no chance against someone with A-rank Familiars or higher.
Unfortunately, I'm part of that group... my name is Reira, and I'm the professor of the Summoning class at the Harlock School of Magic and Witchcraft, a only girls school. Sounds good, right? And it would be, if it weren't for the other teachers or even the students; most of my Familiars are D or E, making me the lowest-ranking in the entire school.
How I hate them, seriously... I know I'm not strong, but they should show me more respect... I'm not saying they should praise me, but I'm still a person. The headmistress is starting to see me as a burden. If we don't manage a good summoning in the next few months, she'll definitely kick me out.
Just now, I had just explained these principles to the new students, and we were standing in front of a summoning circle. I sighed. Here we go again.
As a teacher, I have to demonstrate the procedure, but I always end up with a low-ranking familiar, and the students immediately lose respect for me when they summon one of higher rank than mine.
"Now, the procedure is short", I explain to them as I smile softly and sight.
All the girls were paying attention, some even taking notes. I extend my hand and start to concentrate my magic in the summoning circle as I take a breath, please be C or B at least... please, please. I keep thinking and take a breath as I explain.
"You just have to pour magic energy in the circle, and wait for the familiar to answer"
I explain as the summoning circle start to shine. The students look interest, they all look eagerly and I glup.
