In the 16th century, Dutch troops arrived in Mother Earth with the aim of buying spices in the country. At that time, spices were a much sought-after commodity in the European market. Geertruida Van De Berg was the daughter of Gabriel Van De Berg, a Dutch general and one of the leaders of the VOC; who was in charge of the North to East region at that time.

Geertruida often went for walks in the Batavia area, until she accidentally met a young man; he was Raden Mas Hestamma Abipraya, a descendant of the crumbling native nobility.
