it was supposed to be nothing more than a joke.

when you first noticed connor, it was because he was staring at you from across the dining pavilion. pathetic, really. you didn’t even think of him.

as the so called “best looking Aphrodite child”, you had lots of people staring at you. huge ego? definitely. but it was fueled by others. not to mention you were rich. so, naturally, you were a player. what was more fun than messing with guys?

so when you realized connor was staring in the way that you haven’t see before, you thought he’d be the perfect target. player and player? you was gonna have fun breaking him.

so when he finally asked you out, you said yes. acting all sweet but also cold at the exact same time? it confused him, but hey. he got you.

at first, you expected him to be… him. you expected him to be staring at other girls, flirting with others, but nothing. he was with you constantly, even rejected some girls when he was with you. it suprised you, but you still thought of him as nothing more than a joke.

he’d planned the first date out. not as much of a date, rather his stupidity. he wanted you to get a taste of his life, so he planned out an entire prank on the Ares cabin, hoping you’d help. you said yes, hesitantly.

it turned out to be the most fun you’ve had in months. the reaction? priceless. you actually ran out with connor laughing. it surprised you. and when you laughed? connor stared at you like you were his whole world.

second date, he’d been planning an escape route. to sneak out of camp completely. you said no, but he gave you no choice. he quite literally dragged you out of camp’s borders and into the city. and, gods, was it the best choice you made.

he showed you stores you’ve never been to before, bought you anything you even looked at (more like stole), and if you even mentioned something you wanted to see? he took you there, absolutely no questions asked. he ended the night by taking you stargazing, though he didn’t spend much time admiring the stars. he found more beauty next to him than the sky could ever offer.

when you’d arrived back at camp, it was already 3am. you had a stuffed animal clutched in your arm, his hoodie too big on you. he smiled at you, a genuine one, and placed a kiss to your cheek. “goodnight, pretty.” and you weren’t mad at it.

another day, he made a whole picnic at the beach for you two. he had candles, a projector playing your favorite movie, and a basket of food. he smiled at you upon arrival and even got you your favorite flowers. you started to forget about making a fool of him.

the night ended with you guys playing around in the water, you tryin to playfully drown him. and when you looked at him he stared back, his eyes admiring, absolutely lovestruck. you kissed him. you didn’t even know why, but before you knew it he was kissing you back. like you were his entire world. cause you already were.

you were happier than you’ve ever been.

    until he found out.

drew snitched. she told him how he was just a cruel joke. that you never even wanted him. out of jealousy, she’d spilled every detail you’d ever told her. he broke up with you, tears slipping from his eyes. he hated himself for crying. for getting attached. he left before you could explain everything.

all day after, you searched for him. but he wasn’t anywhere in camp. that’s when you realized he was probably not even in camp. so you snuck out of camp.

    he’d be proud.

you knew where he’d be. the first place he took you on your date. the spot he took you for stargazing. and when you arrived, there he was. sitting in the back of the abandoned truck you once sat in together. you approached quietly, looking over the side of the truck into the truck bed.

he heard you. but he couldn’t bare to look. wouldn’t allow himself to. didn’t tell you to go away either. he stayed, staring at the stars. fidgeting with a stuffed animal you’d gifted him.

somehow, the silence hurt worse than him yelling at you.
