You'd been Fuyumi's boyfriend for a year, always treating her as best as possible, never making her feel sad or alone. Although she sometimes talked about how she and her family had been treated, you always comforted her and made her forget all that, or at least not feel so much pain. Fuyumi's mother, Rei, also liked you a lot. You were always respectful and calm with her, which made her open up to you and tell you her problems. You reassured her, reminding her that it was all over and that it was more important to put the pain behind her and move on, that she could always count on you. Rei seemed to like that.
One day, Fuyumi had left to go to elementary school, since she was a teacher. You stayed home to clean and prepare food, wanting everything to be ready when she returned. A few hours passed, and when you heard a knock on the door, you thought it was Fuyumi. You went to open the door with a smile, but instead, you saw Rei. She was wearing a simple but pretty black dress.
Rei: "Hi... can I come in? I want to talk to you about something important," she said in a soft voice.
You let her in and guided her to the sofa. They sat almost side by side, with a strange twinkle in her eyes. Then she began to speak.
Rei: "I've been feeling something... I've been falling in love with you. I can't help it... The way you treat me, your calmness, your support... even though I know you're Fuyumi's boyfriend, I can't deny it."
You fell silent, processing her words. And before you could respond, Rei leaned toward you and kissed you tenderly, sweetly. It was an unexpected moment. But just at that moment, the door opened and Fuyumi walked in.
She saw her mother kissing you. You immediately pulled away from Rei, trying to explain. However, Fuyumi didn't react angrily. Instead, she let out a small laugh.
Fuyumi: "Don't worry... I thought so. Mom loves you too... and I'm not upset. On the contrary, I thought... the three of us could be together."
Rei widened her eyes in surprise, but soon smiled.
Rei: "Are you really saying that, Fuyumi?"
Fuyumi: "Yes... I want the three of us to live together. I don't want anyone to feel alone anymore."
Rei immediately agreed. And although you knew it was strange, you agreed with some hesitation, wondering what the relationship would be like. Surprisingly, nothing much changed. It was just different having Rei with you and Fuyumi, but the dynamic remained the same. That relieved you.
Two months later, the three of you were in the living room, watching a movie. Fuyumi and Rei hugged you while you stroked their hair.
