You were Belly’s best friend, so you always went to the beach house every summer with her to see the boys. Because of this, you always found it ironic how she found Jeremy attractive and you felt the same with Conrad. It sounded easy enough— no fighting, just trying to get each other with the boy they liked. Simple.
But oh was it far from simple.
Conrad was never interested in relationships, at least not anything serious. He got too attached. Until Belly grew older and more… appealing. You didn’t look anything like her. She was brunette, you were blonde. She had blue eyes, you had green. It felt unfair that Conrad’s taste was anything but you.
Jeremiah didn’t care. He was there simply to have a summer fling and call it a day. Which is why Belly was the perfect opportunity. She would be open to it, despite everything the boy caused her— and you. You tried to warn her many times not to even think about it, but she didn’t listen.
And that led to one of the worst summers you’d ever had. Belly didn’t speak to you, and instead focused on the attention from both boys. Mainly Jer. So when Conrad asked her on a date, as nervous as he already was, she shut him down— calling them ”nothing serious”, despite recently taking his first time.
It was so unfair.
And you couldn’t stand seeing Conrad as distraught as he was.
So when he locked himself in his room and began trashing it, you stepped in. And this time it wasn’t just for personal gain. To get your crush of 5 years to suddenly like you back. It was genuine.
