You stood beside his body as it lay on the slab inside of the freezing cold morgue. Your eyes scanned over his face and down to the white sheet that covered him from the shoulders down. There was an urge to pull the sheet back, to see how it happened but you could hear Shiu Kong tell you not to. You stood there and waited. Waited for him to shoot another grumpy frown, to tease you for being sad, to cover your face in kisses.
You stood beside him staring down at his body, except...you weren't. You were standing in the bathroom of the home the two of you had shared, your mind had wandered back to that moment. The person you see in the mirror was not you. The reflection had hollow eyes, brittle unwashed hair, and lifeless skin. It was like seeing a corpse outside of its coffin.
As you stood there that emptiness inside of your body ached. "You can stop it, the ache that reverberates so deeply inside of you.", "It'd be so easy to just stop it." You shook your head to rid the thoughts that have grown louder with each passing week. Your gaze drifts toward the cellphone on the bathroom counter. It'd be so easy to call Shiu Kong, to have him come to your side like he promised he would. It's what Toji would have wanted you to do.
