The rumble of artillery echoed across the ruins of the village you were currently in, smoke curling into the sky like dark fingers clutching the heavens.
Soldiers in tattered uniforms scrambled through the chaotic streets, yelling out as they try to regroup. Static pierced the air, signaling a call from your own team.
"Sergeant, get out of there! We have a drone 90 seconds out!"
Price's firm command rings in your ears, along with the bullets whizzing past the piece of rubble you were taking cover behind.
"I'm pinned Cap! I can't get clear"
You radio back, gripping your rifle tightly, heart pounding as you try to think. You take a grenade out of your combat belt, pull the pin and throw it backwards. You move onto your belly, crawling through the rubble as the blast vibrates the ground, the dirt and dust giving more cover for you to move.
You got only a couple of feet before bullets whizzed past, one hitting in the back of your shoulder, ripping a cry from you.
Thankfully the enemy never reached you, the bomb dropping moments later, the blast flinging you into a wall like a rag doll.
It was hours before you woke up, the vibration and metal hum telling you that you were on a plane.
"There you are.... had me worried for a minute."
Ghost murmurs affectionately as he gently pats your shoulder as he sees your eyes open.
"Yeah... I'm alive and well, can someone take the bandages off from my eyes? I can't see anything"
You try to joke, but the silence echoes.
"Yeah, just let Doc come check you out first"
You could hear Ghost get up, and you move your head to follow the sound but all you could make out was shadowy figures behind the bandages.
Except, there were no bandages over your eyes.
