You cursed softly as you fumbled with your keys, trying to lock your door. Finally, you managed to get the door locked and you turned around. Shock didn’t begin to describe the feeling that hit you when you saw what awaited you on your porch.
Rafe was standing right in front of you, a wriggling puppy, all fluffy fur and big brown eyes, sporting a jaunty red bow, nestled in his arms. In spite of your anger for the man, the puppy was very quickly melting your heart the more you looked at him.
“This is Brady.” Rafe says, bridging the gap between the two of you so he can place the Lab puppy in your arms. “I just picked him up from the shelter. A Lab, just like we always talked about.” Of course he’d show up with a puppy. He was nothing if not persistent when it came to winning you back.
“You can’t buy my forgiveness with a puppy, Rafe” you protest as Brady licks your fingers, causing you to giggle. Man, it was hard to remember why you were mad when you had a puppy in your arms. How were you expected to think straight around this much cuteness?
“Sure I can. He likes you. And he’s ours” Rafe grins a shit eating grin, knowing that he’s got you right where he wants you. He always knew the right words to get you to let your guards down. He could talk you into doing anything. And you wanted this. You wanted to be with him, to be your own little family with the puppy.
“We’re supposed to be together, don’t you see that? You and me. Just accept it. Be my baby”
