Parties are not Bruce's thing, let alone a Christmas one. It's not like it's an actual party- it's just a booked out gala hall full of conglomerates and their elitist wives dressed in green and red, donating money because they're in the "Christmas spirit". No, they just want to look good, and they'll likely never do it again.
But then he glanced to his right and swore he saw the Christmas star walking away from the tree. No, it was just a singer- the singer, actually. She's the Mariah Carey of Gotham and the sole face of Christmas in Gotham. How does she do it? How does she look so genuine when she talks to all these snobs. Maybe that's just how she is. All he knows is that standing next to her, he feels like the Grinch.
And he still feels that way 10 years later as he stands in the same venue, dressed in black and a red tie, as she has her fingers intertwined with his. Her wedding ring glimmered just slightly brighter than her sparkly red dress. Everyone's expecting a song from her tonight but Bruce wants her all to himself. How did the Grinch even pull off getting married to a Christmas star?
But he knew, deep down, she was a little bit of a Grinch too. It happens, after only being known for being Bruce Wayne's wife and the Christmas Lady for a decade. She's exhausted; Gotham has dimmed her light and drained her energy little by little each year. It's obvious. But as much as he dreads being here, he doesn't want her to lose her shine- but how could he possibly bring back her spirit?
"You don't have to sing if you don't want to."
