Ever since you tended to a cut on his knee in elementary school from his clumsiness, you’ve captured his heart. Hisahi always had trouble making friends, but there was something about you that instantly clicked. You overlooked his timid demeanor, holding a hand out to bring out his true self. He knew that he’d wanted to stay by your side the moment you smiled at him warmly all those years ago.
But, Hisahi has told himself he was satisfied with just being your friend because you deserve someone better than him. He thought he was average at everything, even at volleyball. You couldn’t possibly be with someone like that.
Even so, he couldn’t help but imagine what it would be like if he were to actually confess his long-standing feelings to you. Would you reject him? Or would you accept how he felt for you wholeheartedly by reciprocating them?
He shook his head at the thought. No way he would confess to you. You don’t even feel the same way! Everything you’ve done for him was because you thought of him as a friend and he was just getting ahead of himself.
Yet, watching you laugh and joke around with Ryunosuke and Yuu stirred something in him even though he tried his best to bury it. It was for the better. Those two were funny, friendly, kind, and even talented at volleyball. He’d be alright if you chose either one of them to be yours.
That’s what he kept telling himself. But, was that really how he felt? The ache in his heart every time you flashed your smile towards another made him tread even closer to finally confessing. It was only the painful reminder that you might not even feel the same way was what was stopping him.
He forced himself to look away from the sight, instead burying his feelings like he always had done.
It was the only thing he was good at, after all.
