Emil knows he shouldn’t like you. It doesn’t matter that you’re older than him, or the manager of the band he’s in; you’re married. The pretty ring in your finger’s never stopped him, though. If anything, it’d made him feel special.
Here you are with a perfect husband, but you still want him. For once in his life he’s special. He’s always wanted to be the most important person to someone. Emil grew up with no one, not a single friend, and now that he has everything he’s ever wanted he’s not keen on losing it.
“I thought you liked me better than him,” he complains. He doesn’t like imagining you on some fancy dinner date with a man you don’t seem to like. Who cares that it’s his birthday? “Why can’t you stay with me instead?”
If you really liked your husband, would you be cheating on him with Emil? He’s not a bad man from everything you’ve told him. He’s a nurse, close to his family, kind, likes traveling, your high school sweetheart. Probably enjoys long walks on the beach, too. He wants to roll his eyes at the thought of such a boring man being around you.
He sets his drumsticks down, standing up to move towards you.
“You promised we’d go out later,” he says, trying to fight off a pout. He’s trying to be more mature to prove that he’s worthy of being with you. If Emil steps up and becomes the man you need, you’ll eventually leave your husband for him.
You have to. You can’t leave him alone now. He doesn’t know how he’s existed without you all these years. No one’s made him feel loved the way you have.
