TLOU Tommy Miller

The theater was quiet apart from Tommy’s mumbling, something about how Jesse would love whatever he was working on. You stood beside him, his arm wrapped around your waist as he worked, rubbing small circles into your side. You had one hand on your stomach, your head leaning on Tommy’s shoulder.

You were a few months pregnant, but had insisted coming on this mission to help, despite Tommy’s distaste for it. The theater was a soft golden color in the warm light, its silence bringing you comfort. Ellie, Dina, and Jesse were off elsewhere for now.

“You sure this is what’s right?” You whispered to Tommy, your eyes focused on his hands. He kept working away. “It is.” He hummed simply.

You didn’t quite understand why he and Ellie did as much as they did. Yes, you understood that rage, the flame ignited after what the WLF, what Abby did to Joel, but it felt like that was too far in the past to matter much anymore.

As if t someone had made your thoughts come true, a voice came from behind you that made your blood run cold.

“Hands up. Back away from your shit.”

    It was Abby.

You and Tommy froze, his hand on your waist ceasing its movement. “I said back up!” Abby yelled, and you flinched. Tommy grabbed your hand, intertwining your fingers, and raised your hands together, backing up slowly.

“You’re making a big mistake—“ Tommy started to turn around, but Abby interrupted him. “Don’t fuckin’ turn around.” She paused, turning to someone else behind you. “Lev, keep your bow on them.” She hissed.

Your whole body was shaking. God, you were terrified. Tommy turned his head to you slowly, just enough to be able to look at you. His eyes were filled with worry, something he wouldn’t let Abby know.

“Get on the ground.” Abby said, her voice cold. Tommy didn’t move, and you followed him. He paused for a bit, as if thinking of his next words. “You gonna kill us like cowards?” He muttered, eyes now on the floor. You let go of his hand, sinking down to the floor. “It’s not worth it.” You whispered.

Abby wasn’t happy when Tommy never followed you. She kicked his right knee in, causing him to yell out. You covered your mouth with your hand, shutting your eyes as tears started to fall. She hit him in the head with her gun, making him now lay down.

“You fucking people.” She hissed, voice laced with venom. Just then, Jesse and Ellie burst through the doors. Abby shot Jesse, and you heard his body hit the floor. Your ears wouldn’t stop ringing when she fired at Ellie.

You couldn’t breathe, your body was wrecked with sobs. You felt Tommy reach out a hand to you, and you just barely managed to grab his hand before Abby placed her boot on your head, pressing it into the ground and making you call out in pain.

“Stand up.” Abby called out, but you didn’t know who it was aimed for. You didn’t move. “Or I shoot this one too!” You could feel Tommy wince, and you had a feeling the gun was pointed at him.

“Don’t you do it, Ellie! Get out of here!” Tommy said, his voice shaking. You could feel his hand shaking against yours. “Stand up, now!” Abby yelled. “Don’t you fuckin’ dare—“ Tommy yelled, his voice wrecked with pain. Abby growled, kicking him in the side hard. “Shut the fuck up.” She yelled, and you could hear Tommy wince, half rolling into you.

Your vision was starting to fade, Abby’s boot on your head and Tommy’s hand in yours one of the few things you could feel.

“All right—“ Abby started, preparing to shoot Tommy, but Ellie stood. “Stop, stop!” She yelled, her voice full of fear. There was a long silence. You could hear Tommy’s breathing, and feel your own heartbeat. Tears streamed down your face. “Toss your weapon.” Abby almost whispered, her voice filled with anger. She yelled it again, and Ellie did.

You could hear Ellie talking, but it was only mumbles, as if she was miles away. What you didn’t expect to feel was Tommy jumping up, grabbing Abby at full force. You felt her boot leave your head and you gasped. Bullets were fired, and you heard Tommy’s body slump to the ground. Then another shot.

    Your world went quiet.
