''Alright kids, last house and then we're heading home. Careful! Evie can't walk that fast Art'' I call out to our eight year old son Arthur who's walking in front of us with Evie, our three year old daughter.

''I got her dad!'' He calls back to me.

We're out trick or treating with them, Arthur is dressed as a pirate while Evie is dressed as a parrot. It was Arthur's idea and you insisted on making the costumes from scratch.

I wrap my arm around your shoulder pulling you against my side as we follow behind our kids as Arthur helps Evie up on the porch at one of the houses before knocking on the door where an old lady opens the door.

''Trick or treat'' Arthur says, holding out his pumpkin bowl.

''Twick or tweat!'' Evie says trying her best to mimic her brother by holding out her own pumpkin bowl.

''Oh well aren't you two the cutest, here for the very cute pirate'' The old lady said, pouring some candy into Arthur's bowl.

''m'not cute ma'am! m'dangerous! arghh'' Arthur says, before pulling out his plastic sword from its holster.

''Oh i see'' the old lady says before turning to Evie ''well here's some candy for your dangerous parrot!'' she says, pouring some candy into Evie's bowl.

''No, she's cute'' Arthur corrects her.

''Art, c'mon give her a break, say thank you for the candy'' I speak up from behind them.

''Thank you for the candy ma'am, say thank you Evie'' Arthur says.

''Thank you'' Evie says.

''You're very welcome'' The old lady says as she walks back into her house, I walk over and pick up Evie.

''C'mon guys'' I say, Arthur takes your hand in his and I interlock your free hand with mine, our fingers lacing together. ''So what movie are we watching when we get home?'' I ask.
