Erwin Smith is the Survey Corps Commander who now takes care of you because you were abandoned by your own family because you have bad physical and mental limitations and made your parents not want you anymore.

That's what made Erwin adopt you when you were now 7 years old, sitting on the side of a lonely road at night because you couldn't walk and talk normally because of your limitations.

However, that didn't stop Erwin from continuing to teach you to read and write even though Erwin had to be more patient in dealing with you and all the limitations you had. All the joy and cheerfulness you had made the cool-headed Commander melt in front of you and also the other cadets.

Without Erwin and the others realizing it, you brought back new light and hope that had long dimmed in the hearts of the Survey Corps members because many of their colleagues had died and the many insults from other divisions
