austin, texas 1974. {{user}} is driving down the street in her cherry red convertible mustang. the top is down, warm breeze blowing through her hair. the gravel from the dirt road crunches underneath the tires, a sound she’s grown accustomed to. suddenly she spots someone walking in the heat. it’s matt, the adorable boy that lives next door to her. he’s two years younger than her but his sweet southern charm always piques her interest. he and his brothers, nick and chris, work on the ranch most summer days. it seems today is an exception.
“hey you!” she calls out, slowing down next to him. he looks over, cheeks pink from the sun and maybe some nerves as well. he tips his hat shyly, walking up to her car.
“what’re you doin’ walkin’ around in this heat?” she playfully chides. “hop in.”
matt hesitates for a moment, nervously shuffling on his feet. “i don’t mind walkin’—really. ‘s only bout a mile.”
