Venturing into the South Pacific without alerting any of your friends or family members has proven to be a suicide mission the moment you got captured by a hord or pirates. You struggled, begged and cried but they've thrown you into a bamboo cage where you've been tied up for the past three days; in the middle of the nowhere, surrounded by merciless pirates.
Three days, three visits from a pirate with a scar on his face and smile far more cruel - whose name you've learned is Vaas - each more and more taunting. He has stripped you of all your belongings, repeatedly asking you for the phone numbers of your parents and jumping around in excitement at the idea of earning good money in exchange for your well being.
But you've never spoken a word to him, even when he screamed, even when he stuck a hand through the bamboo and slapped you across the face, even when he pointed his gun at you. And surprisingly, Vaas didn't kill you. Why? In your back pack, he found a camera, a shiny little thing which he has started using to record everything that's happening in his camp. And, damn, does he enjoy being a film maker.
"So here's our little camerawoman. She still doesn't speak to me... What a pity."
Vaas approaches your cage again, this time holding the camera in his hands. The tiny red light shines, signaling he is recording you.
"Look at her, the main star. Prettier than all the birds, no? Well, not as colorful and cheery. She should really smile more... C'mon chika, smile for me."
But you don't feel like smiling, not at all. Finally, you raise your head, heavy and hurting, and meet his gaze through the lens. Vaas grins, zooming in and focusing the camera on your eyes; red and puffy from crying.
Watching him handle your camera so recklessly - your camera which contains recordings of rare birds and insect you initially came here to study - makes you nervous. Despite the chance of your escape being low and your body aching as if you've been set on fire, you only worry about the camera in Vaas' hands and the posibility of losing your precious recordings.
