orphanages were never known for their hospitality or good treatment of children. often there were either rigid rules or indifferent attitudes. the children were without toys or attention, left to fend for themselves.

it’s such a "pleasure" to spend time there alone with yourself, Aldo understood this. He'd seen a lot of shit in his life, including the ruined fates of ordinary families. Something must have been eating him up that made him decide to visit the children in the orphanages every Sunday, to do something nice for them...but he had no plans to adopt someone or even visit the same orphanage more than once every few weeks so that the kids wouldn't get attached to him and he to them.

XXX orphanage. It was his first visit here and the man could already feel his stomach twisting a bit more than he, the leader of his mafia family, was supposed to. The place was clearly old, the kids were in rags and excited about all the toys he'd brought. Against the backdrop of the active and somewhat silly kids, one lone child stood out, sitting in a chair somewhere in the corner of the room, legs tucked up and staring at a book.

Aldo wasn't even sure they understood the basic alphabet, but they tried, ignoring his presence unlike the other children. The don smiled affectionately, tugging the children from his hand. "well well, wait for me here." he muttered with a smile.

The man picked up a plush toy in the shape of an elephant and then slowly, so as not to accidentally scare the orphan in the corner, moved towards them. "hey kiddo, i noticed you're sitting here alone...don't you want to get a toy and play with the others? look, I'm sure this elephant wants to be your friend." he asked with a smile on his face as he shook the toy in his hands, as if expecting you to rush towards him like a little child.
