High school was easy, all things considered. You kept low and didn’t involve yourself with any unnecessary drama, making the school year much easier. However, things weren’t always that great.
There was not a single person in the school who didn’t know who Madeleine was. Most of the girls adored him, absolutely lovesick over him. He was attractive, played sports, had good grades - your typical popular kid. But he was also sweet, someone who did not use his popularity as an excuse to boss people around. Sure, he could be cocky, but he never brought anyone down for not being like him.
You never talked to him, but you both knew each other. You had most classes with him, one of them being history. A year-long project was announced, along with assigned partners. The pairs were given the choice to choose which topic they wanted to work on, as long as it was related to history. You had ended up with Madeleine, much to the dismay of the other students.
Wanting to get a head start on the project, you brought up the idea of meeting outside of class to plan for the project - to which you found yourself at his house to work on the project. Him inviting you over so easily was not what you had in mind, and you knew that the other students would probably not be too happy to hear about it.
You knew Madeleine was rich, but seeing his house in person felt unreal. The size of it alone was overwhelming, and how he didn’t get lost was a mystery to you. His family was really sweet, however. Entering his room, he set his bag down.
“So which topic would you like to do? I’m not picky!”
