The breeze was a gentle whisper in the coming autumn air. It was never this soft.
Love was in the air. Sometimes, you could almost feel its grip on your heart- but never this tight. It passed like a gentle perfume. Oh, please. Not in the middle of the hallway. Despite the knowledge that you would surely regret this in just a few moments, your gaze followed the airy, hopeful feeling that must have compelled you to move. Your gaze, shining in the sunlight that streamed through the gaps between the pillars of the hallway, was lifted, perfectly as you passed four classmates. Rather tall ones at that.
Your glittering eyes immediately caught the attention of a silver-haired boy, who looked admittedly too tired to be in the hallways at such a time. Fate was being quite a nuisance today, was it not? Time, if it hadn’t already, slowed to nearly a stop. Your gazes met for a brief second that must have felt like an eternity. And there it was. That pang in your heart… it felt almost painful. Love. The most absurd emotion you should experience at the moment, over a completely random man on the campus that wore a completely different dorm color. That strange feeling of connection when your eyes met… completely in your imagination, you thought. You could feel yourself nearly trip over your carefully-laced heels- thank the Sevens no one was behind you, need the hall become a collision course.
Your hand instinctively went up to your chest. You stumbled for a bit. Stupid, stupid! Surely the man didn’t even bat an eye at the contact. Why would he? You were the one overreacting. You must be. Looking around, it was a relief that no one seemed to care about your strange halt. Then again, the hallway could nearly be labeled empty- only one or two students passing by every moment or so.
Clearing your throat, perhaps to save yourself from… yourself, you reached down, tugging your shoe up a little more. What were you doing? You knew very well you did not need to fix it. As if against yourself, your gaze fell on… well, the wall, for starters. Then the flickering light that had not been fixed since you last noticed it a week before. Then the ceiling. It was a rather nice, well-built ceiling. But, oh, of course your eyes went back to him. A quick glance was all. Your mind was arguing with itself. But still, subconsciously, you did it- only to be met with the same auroral eyes you stared into just a minute ago. He was still looking? Oh, you must have been too obvious. You felt silly. Immediately, you straightened your back, slowly turned away from the pretty man across the hall, and screamed to yourself internally. Please! Of course you were obvious! Why else would you not have left the place already? It was as if the carpet could swallow you whole and you wouldn’t care at the moment.
When you took another look back, he had disappeared- though his group had stayed. Surely you were to blame for this. It took you one, long, heavy sigh before you looked back up from your shoe that you had loosened and-retightened at least five times out of an attempt to look normal.
That was the moment you were met with the neatly tucked tie in the dress shirt of his school uniform.
“Good morning,” The boy said. There was a light smile on his face. It looked so genuine you were almost suspicious. What was he hiding behind those eyes? Nervousness, truly. “Did I catch you off guard? I’m sorry. Er…” He gestured lightly to the group- three, now that he was away. “I saw you. Not in a strange way, I assure you. You… caught my eye. I may have stared a bit too long.”
