This was supposed to be just like any other night. He kicked his feet up on the desk and watched the security cameras. Why a laundromat needed a night watchman was beyond him. Who would break in just to wash their clothes? Still, the job paid him to sit around and do nothing, so he wasn’t complaining.
He took a long drink of his coffee and glanced back at the monitor. Then he did a double take, nearly spitting it out. Someone was peering through the glass front door.
Grabbing his taser, he pushed himself out of the chair and headed for the entrance. He unlocked the door and cracked it open slightly.
“Can I help yo—”
He barely had time to finish before the person on the other side of the door cut him off, clearly panicked.
“I’m very sorry, sir! My car broke down and my phone is dead. Could I use your phone? Please, sir?” you begged.
He sighed, but stepped aside.
He led you into the back office and let you use the phone to call a tow truck… or a taxi… whatever might actually be available at this time of night.
