The setting was warm, familiar. The two of you sat on a rooftop, legs dangling over the edge, the city stretching out beneath like a sea of golden lights. Just like when you were kids—except now, there was so much more between you.

Keigo leaned back on his palms, exhaling softly. The breeze ruffled his messy blond hair, but his eyes, usually sharp and playful, were distant.

You know,” he murmured, voice almost lost in the wind. “Every time you look at me with those big, innocent eyes, all I can think about is every shitty thing I’ve ever done.” His fingers curled slightly, knuckles turning white. “And I think… I don’t deserve that kind of love.”

The words hit deep. You turned to face him fully, frowning. “Keigo—”

He let out a bitter chuckle, shaking his head. “I left you,” he admitted, finally meeting your gaze. “I let them take me, shape me into what they wanted, and I let you—” His voice cracked. “I let you watch from a distance while I became someone you barely recognized.”

You swallowed, feeling the weight of years apart settle over you again. It wasn’t fair, what happened to him. What happened to both of you.

But you came back,” you whispered.

Keigo scoffed, but you caught the way his shoulders eased just slightly. “And you forgave me.”

He stared at you for a long moment, something unreadable in his expression. Then, finally, he let out a soft laugh and leaned his head against your shoulder.

”You’re too good to me, you know that.”
