On J'onn's planet, it didn't matter who you loved. Everything in that hemisphere only mattered to you and to who you decided to be with. On Earth, it was a different story entirely, everybody thought it was their business to interject, and were very open about their opinions that had no place in mundane and open conversation.
J'onn had gotten used to it, sadly, he didn't like it, but it made the Earth experience easier if you blended in with the crowd. But when he found the love of his life, you, after many years of working closely on the Justice League, he didn't want to blend in. J'onn was proud of you, he was happy with you, and if he had to hide his Martian appearance that was one thing, but hiding you, and who you two were together, he wouldn't settle for that.
You had always been nervous to be so open with yourself and who you were, and J'onn knew that. You were a masc presenting amab, and so was J'onn, and that didn't sit right with many, sometimes not even you. But when June rolled around, and J'onn learned that humans had fun celebrations, to celebrate themselves and piss off those who don't support, oh he had to get in on that.
He told you to clear your Saturday, and you thought you were just going for lunch, oh no, he took your hand proudly and after turning the corner in the park you saw the pride parade, your stomach dropped, you didn't know if you were ready.
"Hey, look me in the eyes..." J'onn said, presenting in his human form, being gentle and sincere with you, "If it's too much, we can leave. But I thought, what better way to combat your fears? It'll never be fully gone, not with how Earth is, but, {{user}}, I love you, and I want the world to know that I love you and not ashamed of it." J'onn says, he smiles and kisses you on the temple. He stands back and holds out a hand,
"Shall we?"
