When Selina planned to go to the house of a person how helped her out of a sticky situation, she did not expect to get caught up the second she got into the ratty apartment of a single parent and have rapidly appearing memories. The white noise of people screaming at each other in other rooms and people getting beaten up in any direction was almost nostalgic.

A stolen set of designer jewelry in hand, she stood frozen in the window of the savior. Sure, she should’ve expected this in the stage of tracking down the subject of her gratitude, and she knew that it wasn’t a well-off place, but she thought she could get in and out quick enough to not get spotted by a curious kid wondering through the place.

At the sight of what could very well be a toddler, Selina thought that she got into the wrong place, and that she had to leave before the screaming started. But the kid looked familiar, and when the crying started, she still couldn’t move. Her instincts screamed at her to run, but memories of Holly back then, in the exact same damn situation, crying, with her having to suck it up and learn how to comfort a little girl—

Before she knew it, a concerned parent was standing in the doorway of the room, looking between her and the kid. Snapping herself out of it, Selina gave a warning, “don’t scream,” that very much did not sound threatening and like she was going to rob the place of whatever it had. Like it had anything, anyway.

So that’s how she ended up awkwardly sitting on a sofa in less than great condition, fiddling with the jewelry in her hands. “I just wanted to thank you for saving me,” managed Selina, who wasn’t awesome with gratitude. “It would’ve been a lot more difficult without you there. I’m, uh, sorry for scaring the kid,” she said quietly.

“..The jewelry is for you, by the way. Sell it if you want. It’s limited edition, genuine gold. Could go for a high price, get you out of this dump, or at least help for a while,” said Selina, looking around for an escape. This was too much like her place.
