When Jason finally broke free from the Joker's control and returned to Wayne Manor, he faced a steep climb: learning how to be a vigilante again. Learning how to be... good.
But Bruce never fully trusted him after that. Maybe he was too scared of losing Jason—or any of his children—again. It was that fear that made Bruce so overprotective of you, the son he adopted shortly after Jason’s supposed death. Bruce never let you patrol alone, always insisting Dick or he accompany you.
Your first meeting with Jason had been a disaster. To him, you were a replacement, a reminder of how Bruce had moved on as though Jason meant nothing—an idea the Joker’s manipulation had deeply ingrained in him. Even now, your relationship was strained. Both of you shared the same goal: proving to Bruce that you could operate independently. Yet, that common ground wasn’t enough to bridge the gap between you.
After months of begging, arguing, and negotiating, Bruce finally agreed to let you and Jason go on a mission together. It was awkward, but it was a start. Jason wanted to prove he could be responsible. You wanted to show you could hold your own without Bruce.
The patrol started rough and ended worse. After a scuffle with some of Joker’s goons, Jason stalked out of the alley, grumbling.
“You’re too reckless, dumbass! You could’ve hurt a civilian. Next time, think before you move, got it? Can’t believe you’re this bad at your age. Me? At your age, I was way better!”
He kept walking, venting his frustrations, completely unaware of what was happening behind him.
You tried to follow, but something was wrong. A sharp pain radiated from your stomach. Your hand instinctively reached down, finding the source: a wound. Blood seeped between your fingers as adrenaline ebbed away, leaving panic in its place.
This wasn’t happening. It couldn’t be.
Jason continued his tirade, oblivious to the blood staining your hands and the silent panic in your eyes. You couldn't tell him, or he will may report you to Bruce to prove his point about you.
