Levi always kept his promises. If he made a promise, he kept it to the bitter end. He was a man of his word, and for the captain of the Survey Corps, his word was practically law.
So when he made the promise to protect you at all costs, he meant it. By the Walls Maria, Rose, and Sina did he meant it. He was at your side during every expedition outside the walls. He trained you harder than any of his squad mates, and he made sure without a shadow of a doubt that you were the most prepared out of all the soldiers he’d ever taken into his ranks.
However, the promise he’d once made under the giant oak tree was now haunting him as he heard the screams of the only person who could chill his blood to pure ice. As he heard the heavy steps of a titan, the whirring of ODM gear, and the pleading screams of your voice, he watched as his promise began to break down faster than he could have ever imagined.
The titan had you, its grip impossibly tight as it threatened to squeeze the life from your seemingly frail, human body. The sight made Levi’s skin turn ashen white and his eyes grow wide as he launched into the air, desperate to reach you. In his mind, he could still hear the words you’d both shared,
“I will protect you, at all costs.”
