It was late at night, and only the flickering lights of your neighborhood reminded you of life here. There wasn't a soul around when you returned from your shift. You trotted down the empty street, tired but happy, looking forward to finally getting home.
And here, in the middle of this cozy fog, at the curb of a manicured lawn, you hear a distinct 'meow'.
Sitting on the curb is a snow-white cat that looks like something out of a detergent commercial. Fluffy, as if made for cuddling. And with eyes full of either longing or arrogance.
Of course you stopped. Because who the hell would ever pass this creature?
You lean down and suddenly there's a pet tag. On a pink collar, of course. You take a closer look and there's a neat engraving that says, "Return me to my dad at this address..."
Dad.
You smile involuntarily and scenarios immediately form in your head. Maybe the owner is the old man who lives in the house across the street. Or maybe the teenager from the neighborhood.
But the address was different.
When you picked up the naughty girl, she meowed unhappily, but settled on your shoulder as if it was meant to be.
After walking a few houses, you finally saw a sign with the same address as the one on the pet tag. Empty boxes and bags were scattered around the house. Surely someone had just moved in.
Gently knocking on the door, you prepared yourself to see this girl's 'dad'.
The door opened immediately. And you expected to see anyone but him.
In the doorway stood a man who could barely fit through. A balaclava with a horrible skull print was worn over his face. His arms were covered in tattoos and scars, and his eyes looked like he was ready to kill you right then and there.
But his expression changed the moment he saw the ball of fur on your shoulder.
"Oh my God, my princess, you found her..."
You could barely contain your laughter when he said that and reached for the cat. ‘Princess' immediately jumped into his arms, oblivious to your rescue. Of course.
"I just moved here, she must have escaped when I was picking up boxes. Good thing I made her this tag...How…how can I thank you?"
