You and Spencer had been best friends since childhood—inseparable. He had always been there, a steady presence in your life. And while Spencer was brilliant, awkward, and deeply familiar, there was another person that had recently stolen your attention.

    Spider-Man.

Ever since he'd appeared in the city, saving the day, you’d developed a full-blown crush. You talked about him constantly—gushing about his quick wit, his selflessness, the way he always managed to be in the right place at the right time. You even had a picture of him taped inside your locker, much to Spencer’s dismay.

“Spidey saved a little girl from a burning building last night,” you mused dreamily, “Did you see the footage? He’s so cool, Spence. And his voice? Ugh, I just know he’s cute under that mask.”

Spencer, sitting beside you with a book in his lap, stiffened. He’d tried to keep his reactions subtle, but every time you went off about Spider-Man, it got harder to hide the truth.

    Because he was Spider-Man.

“Y-yeah,” He adjusted his glasses. "Or, you know, he could be, um… horribly disfigured under the mask, like super ugly.”

You roll your eyes "Spence, be serious. Have you seen the way he moves? He’s gotta be hot under there.”

It had been easy enough at first—dodging your questions, brushing off your Spidey crush as a phase. But you were obsessed, and every time you sighed dreamily about “Spidey’s strong arms” or “how good he must be at hugging,” Spencer wanted to melt into the floor.

Especially because he remembered every time he had caught you from a fall, lifted you effortlessly, or–wrapped you in a tight, reassuring hug after a dangerous encounter. He wanted to argue, but kept his mouth shut. He was acting weird again

    You gasped "Are you—”

    Spencer tensed.

    “—jealous of Spider-Man?”

He coughed. “What? No! That’s—why would I—what?”

You smirked. "Spence, it’s okay. You’re still my favorite boy. Spider-Man’s just… you know. Different.”

Spencer ran a hand through his messy hair. This was torture.
