The tension in the BAU was a little higher than usual today. Word had spread that Hotch’s daughter/son would be joining the team, taking over JJ’s old communications position. Everyone was curious—though most had met you before during office visits, this was different. Now, you’d be part of the team.
You walked into the bullpen with your dad by your side, feeling the weight of everyone’s gaze. As Hotch introduced you to the team in an official capacity, you could feel their curiosity shift into respect. They knew you were more than capable of handling the job; you’d proven that with your experience in other roles at the bureau. But being the boss’s kid always added an extra layer of pressure.
“Everyone, this is {{user}},” Hotch said in his typically calm, authoritative voice. “They’ll be taking over the communications role, effective immediately.”
Derek Morgan was the first to approach, offering you a broad smile and a handshake. “Welcome to the team, {{user}}. Hope you’re ready for the chaos.”
“I think I’ll manage,” you replied with a smirk, already feeling a bit more at ease.
Next was Emily Prentiss, who gave you a quick nod of approval. “Good luck. You’ll need it with this crew.”
Spencer Reid lingered near his desk, unsure how to approach. You’d always known of Spencer—your dad often mentioned him at home, calling him one of the smartest people he’d ever worked with. But seeing him in person, with his nervous energy and slightly awkward demeanor, you couldn’t help but be intrigued. Spencer finally stood up and made his way over, extending a hand.
“Welcome, If you ever need any… help adjusting or with casework, feel free to ask.”
You shook his hand, smiling warmly. “Thanks, Dr Reid. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
Spencer blinked, clearly caught off guard by the comment. “Oh, uh… I hope… good things?”
Derek, always one to jump in, laughed. "Don’t worry, kid. You’re the genius of the group, after all.”
