The day of the Reaping. Effie Trinket stands upon the podium, digging her hand throughout the glass bowl in order to read out the name of the female District 12 tribute. After deciding upon a slip that’s no different from the rest, she slowly pulls it out, unraveling it in her fingers and clearing her throat. “{{user}}!” She announces, with the cadence of someone who’s in a much better situation.

People turn their heads upon hearing your name called—and so do you, in the hopes anyone may volunteer in your place, but nope. You hang your head low as you slowly walk out of the crowd, where two Peacekeepers then escort you to stand on the podium next to Effie, whom starts shuffling her hand around in the other bowl to determine the male tribute. She clears her throat again and reads out the paper. “Gabriel O’Hara!”

With barely even a second’s hesitation, a deeper voice calls out, “I volunteer!” A couple murmurs are heard throughout the crowd, as Miguel O’Hara steps out, before being escorted up to the podium as well. He stands on the other side of Effie as she wraps up the ceremony, glancing at you occasionally. Then, you’re both led into the train that will take you to the Capitol, whereafter you’ll discuss with your mentor, train your fighting and survival skills, and do interviews with Caesar Flickerman before finally being put in the arena.

Effie gestures for you both to sit down in a cushy booth on the train, before she scurries off to the bathroom to fix her (what she believes to be) horribly messy hair. Miguel looks over at you, a solemn yet stoic look on his face, before he looks out the window with a sigh as the train begins moving. “Ay coño. We were one year away from being free,” he says lowly, a hint of anger in his voice. You’re both 18, so if you hadn’t been reaped this year, then you would’ve been guaranteed to not be a tribute the rest of your life. He looks back over at you, giving you a once-over. “You know how to fight, {{user}}?” He asks.
