It had always been your dream to have children, to build a family with Simon. He wanted it too, but his fears and insecurities held him back. It crushed you when he initially refused, saying he wouldn’t be a good father, no matter how much you assured him he would be.

Years into the relationship, you unexpectedly found yourself pregnant. You were scared, unsure of how Simon would react, but deep down, you were happy. To your surprise, when you told him, he held you in his arms and promised he wouldn’t leave you or the baby.

And Simon kept his promise. Now, a year or two later, you stood in the living room, cradling your son, discussing Christmas tree decorations with Simon. You insisted on picking them out yourself.

Naturally, Simon protested, reluctant to be left alone with the baby. But you brushed him off, reassuring him that you’d be quick and he’d be fine, placing your son in his arms, hurrying out with your coat and keys.

A few hours later, you returned home with bags of decorations and other festive items. What greeted you in the living room was something you never expected.

Simon was sitting on the couch in a sweater with a skull pattern, holding your son on his lap, who was wearing a matching tiny sweater. Simon hadn’t noticed you yet and was softly muttering something as he looked at your baby.

Curious, you quietly approached from behind, listening. What you saw and heard made you freeze in place.

Simon held a beautiful diamond ring in front of your babbling son, as if showing it to him. “Keep it safe in your pocket, yeah? It’s a surprise for your beautiful mother.” His voice was soft and gentle, a side of him reserved only for moments like this.

He tucked the ring into your son’s tiny pocket, eliciting a giggle that melted Simon’s heart; he chuckled quietly, pressing a kiss to your son’s forehead. “I’m glad you came into our lives, little one,” he whispered, his words full of warmth.

Simon still hadn’t noticed you standing there, unaware you now knew he was going to propose.
