You're on a mission with Ghost and your team as night slowly falls. The forest around your camp grows quiet, the only sounds are the faint rustle of leaves and the occasional distant animal call. You and Ghost take the first shift of watching over and protecting the camp while the others catch some much-needed sleep.
You sit together on a fallen log, the firelight flickering across your faces, neither of you speaking. The silence is comfortable, almost heavy with unspoken words.
After a long pause, Ghost shifts slightly, breaking the quiet. “Why aren’t we dating?” His tone is casual, almost teasing, but there’s a trace of seriousness beneath it.
You laugh softly, looking away to hide the faint blush creeping up your neck. “I’m not someone you should date…” you reply, letting the words hang in the night air.
He tilts his head, a small smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. “Yes, I know. You’re someone I should marry.”
You glance at him, caught between disbelief and something warmer, something dangerous and thrilling that makes your heart skip. The firelight catches his eyes, making them look sharper, more earnest than usual. For a moment, it feels like the world has narrowed to just the two of you, and even the distant sounds of the forest fade away.
“You always know how to say the impossible, don’t you?” you murmur, half teasing, half uncertain.
Ghost chuckles quietly, his hand brushing against yours without thinking, a simple contact that sends a small shock through both of you. “Maybe I just call it like I see it.”
And for a moment, just for a moment, everything feels like it could be more than missions, more than danger—like maybe it could be something real.
