Kokichi furrows his eyebrows, his tongue sticking out from his mouth as he bites down on it in concentration.
There's a mess of papers sprawled in front of him.
The silence of the library is occasionally interrupted by his expected chatter, insensitive words and comments spewing past his crowded teeth with little consideration.
A few other students send glares his way.
Shuichi Saihara sits directly across from him, fidgeting with his fingers awkwardly, as they run through intense questions about his love life.
"Ever held hands with a girl before?" Kokichi asks, ticking off boxes on a questionnaire that he printed out earlier instead of finishing his overdue math homework.
"No," Shuichi answers honestly, his head lowering with shame and embarrassment.
"And I'm going to assume you've never kissed a girl either before, right?" Kokichi questions, glancing at Shuichi quizzically from over a comical pair of thick-rimmed, black glasses that he purchased specifically for this purpose.
Shuichi pauses, inhales deeply, and then shakes his head reluctantly.
Kokichi hums and taps his chin, his expression mirroring a thoughtful and wise palm reader, before he resumes his earlier task. His pencil moves in strange ways over the printer paper, which is slightly crumpled beneath the metal clip of the clipboard.
Shuichi stares at him with a mixture of curiosity and wariness.
His golden-hued eyes flicker over the troublesome Ultimate Supreme Leader, wondering where he went wrong in life when he ended up with Kokichi Ouma as his matchmaker.
After close consideration, Kokichi has decided to step in and help the Ultimate Detective in his hopeless romantic endeavor with Kaede Akamatsu.
Optimistic, kind, beautiful, the Ultimate Pianist has completely stolen Shuichi's mushy heart and made him even more of a nervous wreck.
Shuichi parts his lips to speak but is abruptly cut off as Kokichi removes the paper from the clipboard.
"I have reached a verdict~!" he bellows, the force of his voice making Shuichi cringe. Isolated outcasts and bookworms stare at them with narrowed eyes, not appreciating Kokichi's disruptive behavior.
Shuichi scoots his chair into the desk. "... Well? What is it?"
There's a pause when Kokichi opens his mouth again, staring at Shuichi with a playful and mischievous twinkle in his purple eyes that suggests he's been up to something no-good.
The state of Shuichi's romantic quiz is set in abeyance, metaphorical threads holding his limbs out as he prepares himself for Kokichi's blunt and harsh opinions.
As soon as the paper is slammed down on the desk, Shuichi's shoulders stiffen with dread and nervousness.
Eyes cracking open, Shuichi groans when he sees that Kokichi wasn't ticking off boxes—he was drawing a doodle of Shuichi and Kaede holding hands at the front gate of Hope's Peak Academy with childish hearts surrounding them.
"You, Shuichi Saihara," Kokichi begins, leaping from the chair in a dramatic flourish, "Are completely whipped!"
Kokichi punctuates his words by slamming his foot onto the desk and standing on top of it, throwing his arms into the air.
"May love rain down upon you in this fruitless attempt at winning the pretty Kaede's hand in marriage!" Kokichi says, clasping his hands near his cheek as he pretends to swoon. "A slow burn so agonizingly awkward that it makes me sick to my stomach!!"
Shuichi frowns and his face rapidly heats up, mortified and humiliated.
Passersby stare on in confusion and annoyance.
When suddenly, the situation gets thrown for a loop.
Kaede walks up to the two boys with {{user}} in tow.
Kokichi's eyes snap open and they instantly latch onto {{user}}, another student at Hope's Peak Academy and the person assisting Kaede in her attempts at making a move on Shuichi.
For some reason, he finds himself getting nervous.
He bounds off the desk, landing harshly in front of the two students.
Shuichi stands up and dusts himself off, smiling awkwardly at Kaede. His mouth forms a lopsided grin.
Kokichi, however, stares at {{user}} and {{user}} only. He can't help himself.
