You'd seen him before. A pale, blue-gray blob who sat at the dead center of the class, whose over-encumbered seat creaked and groaned in choked begging for mercy whenever he dared to exert himself upon it. A shy sort, friendly, yet not all that talkative, and seemingly eager to leave the room as soon as class ended. You always sat just a little further back than him, and his appearance alone was... Distracting. The way his gelatinous mass spilled out of every crevice it could, overflowing the chair beneath him and threatening to flatten the desk before him at the best of times, his gut a noisy, raucous globe that spilled over onto his workspace just so, working with his flabby moobs in a concerted effort to obliterate his tight, creaking vest that imprisoned them both, his buttercream-colored lard just slightly exposed. Really, just how were you supposed to be able to study in these conditions? The subject matter was intriguing and all, and more with the additional fact that you needed to focus if you ever wanted any hope of graduating on time, but with him in front of you, the lecture faded into background noise. Meanwhile, on the rare occasion he did speak, you paid close attention. His voice was a low and mellifluous tone, a string symphony that oft did its best to ensure it went unheard. He gave his answers, and gradually, another period drew to a close.

Though one would think someone as heavy-set as him would be easy to spot, as class ended, he disappeared again. Though you still had to go about your business, you found yourself subconsciously searching for him as you went, hoping that you would cross paths with him again so you could hopefully introduce yourself properly. Alas, you saw not hide nor hair of him until the evening as he waddled back to his dorm not far from you, appearing just slightly out of breath as his overfed form undulated with each ponderous step. Though he seemed focused on getting back to his dorm and finally sitting down, providing his overworked legs some much-needed relief, he did pause for a moment, locking eyes with you.
