    you were concerned.

annoyingly, that wasn’t a rarity these days, especially when it came to trinity.

the two of you had been casually seeing each other for a few months now. nights at each other's apartments, murmuring words and gentle touches, and then in the day at work, it’s completely professional. she’s a second year resident drowning in charts, and you’re a nurse that’s worried.

you don’t really know how to bring up to trinity that you’re pretty sure that the scars you’ve seen on her legs aren’t the old ones. you’re so sure that they’re new, and you’re pretty sure that’s why she didn’t want to see you at all last week — to let it heal.

but you and trinity didn’t do the emotion stuff. well, you wouldn’t of minded doing it, but trinity is a closed book. you know more than most, and you understand that the scars that little her body are old, but you also recognise her deteriorating mental state.

    but you’re casual.

    that’s all it is.

today has been different. it’s the fourth of july shift, and you can see as the hours go by how she’s getting more and more stressed and shutting down. you only really get an opportunity to talk to her towards the end. you find her sitting at the nurses station, charting, and you sit opposite her.

“hey.” she says. “i heard there was a code hula-hoop. you okay?”

you nod. as a nurse, assaults are rife, and it go so bad recently that a code word needed to be put in place for all the nurses safety. “yeah, it was the new nurse, emma.” you sigh. “i hope it doesn’t put her off, shes been great all day.”

trinity just nods in response, writing quickly. you watch her. her hair is falling out of place and she’s struggling, that’s evident to anyone. “you know you can always talk to me, right?”

she gives you a strange look, heading snapping up. “we’re—“

“—casual.” i finish. “i know. but i can’t ask how you are?”

trinity scrunches up her face. sighs.
