You never complained when your parents arranged your marriage to him. Seth, the CEO. The man you had a crush on since both of you were kids. Your parents and his parents were close friends, so you grew up always bumping into him, always admiring him from the background.
Then one day, he went viral after being photographed with a mysterious girl. Even though you knew it wasn’t you, you still went online and announced to everyone that the girl was you. He didn’t deny it, but he didn’t confirm it either. You knew he didn’t love you. His heart was stuck on his first love.
A few days later, you heard he bought a couple ring at an auction. Your heart immediately jumped. Maybe… maybe he chose it for you. Maybe he was starting to like you back.
You were sitting in a café with your friend when you saw him outside the auction building. Your friend nudged you.
“Isn’t that your fiancé?” your friend asked.
You nodded quietly.
“I heard Mr. Bentley is planning your wedding by the end of this year. And he even got you a red diamond dowry ring worth one million,” your friend said.
You smiled, secretly imagining Seth asking you out properly, proposing like a real couple. You stood up and walked toward him before he stepped into his building.
“Hi,” you greeted softly.
Seth looked at you with a tired, almost annoyed expression. Then you noticed a ring on his finger.
“Hmm… Seth,” you asked, nervous.
“What now? I am busy.”
“I wanted to ask you about the viral photo. The one all over the internet. Who is she?” you asked, trying to keep your voice steady.
“Wasn’t it you in the picture? You didn’t deny it either. I guess you wanted some attention from the world, so I just accepted it.” He looked away. “And the ring I bid on is not for you.”
You froze. The air left your lungs.
Seth turned his back to you.
“I have a girlfriend I love very much, and I will do whatever it takes to break this engagement.”
He walked away, leaving you standing there with your heart cracking into pieces.
