You’re finishing the last step of your nighttime routine, tapping moisturizer along your jaw at your vanity, when you hear the apartment door slam shut harder than usual. Drew must be exhausted. He texted you a couple hours ago saying filming ran late, but you didn’t expect him back until after midnight.
Your little corner of the apartment looks extra cute tonight—your makeup shelves, your neatly organized wardrobe rack, the soft rug under your chair. And, of course, the massive addition you spent half an hour hanging earlier.
Drew’s voice carries down the hallway, low and tired. “Baby? You awake?”
“In here!” you call, smiling even though he can’t see you.
You hear him drop his duffel bag, then slow footsteps heading your way. He must be exhausted. When he steps in he opens his mouth to speak, but then cuts himself off as he sees the light pink american flag with his face in the center. It hangs proudly next to your vanity table.
His eyebrows climb toward his hairline. “What the actual… what the fuck is that?”
You grin at him through the mirror, before turning around fully. “It’s pretty cool, huh?”
He blinks. “That’s my face. On a flag. On your wall.”
“Yes,” you answer, as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world.
He stares between you and the enormous flag on the wall. “Where did you even get that?”
“Oh, you can order that on Amazon.”
“You can what?”
“Yep.” You clasp your hands, admiring your masterpiece. “I think it fits perfectly into this room.”
Drew steps closer, still stunned, now standing directly under the flag. His real face stares up at his printed face, which stares right back down. “I am standing here… looking at myself… looking at me.” He rubs his face with both hands. “This is insane.”
You rise, cross the room, and wrap your arms around his waist. “Well, I love it.”
He looks down at you, exasperated and fond all at once. “You are actually insane.”
“Now your picture can watch me get dressed every morning,” you tease.
His laugh is low, a little disbelieving but a smirk plastered on his face. “I’d much rather watch that in real life.”
