You didn’t like his girlfriend. You didn’t trust her as far as you could throw her.
Cherry wasn't the one for him. She had her claws in him, and you could see it more clearly than anyone else.
It didn’t help that you had been in love with Daniel for years. Memories flood your mind if your families’ holidays together, sneaking out of boarding school dorms to share late-night talks, the way you stuck by him during his gap year.
Watching him fall for one girl after another had been painful enough, but watching him fall for her was unbearable.
Now you’re in an argument with him over her, after the disaster of a dinner together.
“You need to apologise to Cherry. You were completely out of order.”
“Apologise?” you snap, disbelief cutting through your voice.
“She’s my girlfriend and you were interrogating her,” he shoots back, running his fingers through his hair in frustration. His eyes narrow. “Are you jealous?”
“I’m just looking out for you!” you fire back, your voice breaking.
The room goes still, Daniel staring at you, trying to figure out if there’s more behind your anger than you’re willing to admit.
