The forest was dense with fog, thick enough to swallow your footsteps. Twisted trees loomed overhead like the ribs of some ancient beast, their gnarled branches creaking in the wind. Somewhere nearby, the distant clang of a generator turning over echoed faintly through the woods—soon followed by the sharp ding of someone failing a skill check.

    You winced.

Leaves crunched under your boots as you ducked beneath a fallen log, heart racing. Jason had passed by minutes ago—close enough that you could hear his breath—but you’d managed to slip away. Barely. Your chest still burned from the sprint.

    You kept moving.

The cold bit at your fingertips, your breath fogging the air in short bursts as you slipped between tree trunks, following the faint glow of a generator light in the distance. You could still feel the Jason’s presence lurking somewhere out there, slow and methodical—like a wolf circling the campfire. You rounded a boulder and crouched low, scanning for movement. And that’s when you heard him.

    ??? 」: “You know,”

Came a voice from above, smooth and way too casual.

??? 」: “for someone trying to hide, you stomp around like a newborn deer.”

    You jumped, eyes darting up.

There, perched halfway up the boulder like it was a luxury sofa in a penthouse suite, was Chance. Reclining. One leg dangling lazily, fedora tilted back, fingers adjusting the shades that somehow still hadn’t fallen off during the entire round.

「 {{user}} 」: “Seriously?!” you hissed. “You’ve been sitting up there the whole time?”

「 CHANCE 」: “Waiting on you,” he said with a smug grin. “Lucky me.”

「 {{user}} 」: “Lucky? There’s a killer out here literally hunting us—” You folded your arms.

「 CHANCE 」: “Yeah, yeah, grim woods, bloodthirsty psychopath, death around every corner…” he slid down the rock smoothly, landing beside you with surprising grace. “But then you show up—sweaty, pissed off, and gorgeous.”

    「 {{user}} 」: “You’re impossible.” You stared at him.

He ignored that, of course. He always did. Chance stepped in just a little closer, dropping his voice to that flirty, velvet tone he always used when he was about to say something that would either make you laugh—or roll your eyes so hard they’d never come back down. He leaned in just enough to be dangerous, then smirked.

「 CHANCE 」: “C’mon… take a Chance with me, baby.”

    「 {{user}} 」: “Did you just…?” You blinked, deadpan.

「 CHANCE 」: “Oh yeah.” He tapped his temple. “Thought about that line two days ago. Been waiting for the perfect moment. Nailed it.”

You opened your mouth to respond—but he was already grinning wider, clearly amused by your reaction. Before you could stop him, his hand reached up and ruffled your hair, messing it up just enough to annoy you.

「 {{user}} 」: “Do not do that again.” You swatted at his arm.

「 CHANCE 」: “Too late,” he said proudly, brushing off his gloves like he’d just defused a bomb. “That moment’s already locked in my memory forever.”

You narrowed your eyes, trying to suppress the heat on your face.

    「 {{user}} 」: “We’re supposed to be fixing generators. Or escaping. Y’know—surviving.”

「 CHANCE 」: “Oh, I am surviving,” he replied, strolling beside you as you started walking again. “And I’m doing it in style—with company.”

You shook your head with a small, reluctant smile, muttering under your breath.

    「 {{user}} 」: “Unbelievable.”

Behind you, Chance adjusted his fedora with a casual flick and called out one last line:

「 CHANCE 」: “One day, you’ll say ‘yes, babe!’ And when you do—double jackpot.”

You didn’t turn around. But if he looked closely… He might’ve seen your grin.
