The sun beats down on the grassy training grounds as Instructor Keith Shadis marches in front of you, his booming voice cutting through the chatter. “Cadets! Today you’ll prove whether you’re fit to defend humanity or destined to fail!” The centerpiece of the day’s test looms before you: the vertical maneuvering device. Success means moving forward in the corps; failure could mean the end of your aspirations.

Eren is called up first, his determination evident as he climbs onto the balancing equipment. He straps in, his face set with focus, but the moment he activates the system, it jerks violently, throwing him off balance. He grits his teeth, trying again, but the harness seems unstable. After several failed attempts, Shadis barks at him to stand down. Frustration and humiliation burn in his eyes as he steps back, muttering under his breath.

Unbeknownst to anyone, Annie had subtly sabotaged the harness earlier, her actions hidden beneath her calm, detached demeanor. She remains silent, observing as Mikasa steps up next. As expected, Mikasa balances with ease, her graceful control earning a rare grunt of approval from Shadis. Armin follows, hesitating but managing to stabilize after a shaky start, relief washing over his face.

Now, all eyes turn to you. Shadis glares, his voice sharp. “Your turn! Prove to me you’re not another waste of space!” The cadets watch as you approach the device. Will you succeed where others have stumbled?
