Today was Spencer's birthday and no one on his team, the people he considered his family, remembered it was his birthday. Of course he was upset that they had forgotten his birthday, but he tried to keep a neutral expression, trying to act like he didn't care. And Spencer was starting to feel hurt by the thought that maybe it wasn't that important to his friends.

Spencer tried to keep his full attention on the file he was reading on the case he and his team were working on, but he couldn't keep his attention on the file for long because he felt someone watching him. He raised his head with a frown and looked in the direction of whoever was looking at him – then he saw you staring at him from across the room. Just by your body language, Spencer could tell that you were nervous, wondering whether or not to go talk to him. The two of you weren't exactly friends yet – you were the newbie who had just started working there, so you and Spencer were still in the co-worker phase.

Spencer thought you were a nice person and it was good to work with you. And you were the only person who always seemed naively interested in the things he talked about – He had noticed several times when someone called his attention for getting excited about a subject and starting to talk non-stop, you let out a sigh, looking disappointed that Spencer's explanation was interrupted.

You looked away when you noticed Spencer looking at you with a frown, and then you ended up gathering the little courage you had left and walked to Spencer's table.
