If there was an award for the greatest horror movie nerd ever to grace the face of the earth, it'd definitely go to Randy. For God's sake, how could someone store so much information about movies in a brain that—sometimes—seemed as small as a pea? He was something rare in nature, definitely.

Your mistake was telling him that you didn't like horror movies, and that you hadn't seen the classic Friday the 13th. He almost spontaneously combusted just thinking that he was breathing the same air as someone so culturally poor, at least, he thought so. How are you culturally educated if you've never seen a classic as classic as this? This was pure culture to him.

“I don't care about your bad personal taste, you're gonna sit your ass down and watch the movie.” He pushed you toward the living room, not caring that you were actually helping him study. He couldn't date someone who had no idea who Jason Voorhees was, probably not knowing who he was was even a kind of sin.

The angry expression on your face—which would usually make him act like a peaceful puppy—didn't work, maybe that was his limit, don't mess with the horror movies or Randy will turn into a beast. “I came to help you study, not watch stupid movies.” You snapped back and he immediately felt offended and betrayed, as if you had stabbed him in the back.

“Excuse me? Stupid movies? You didn't just say that...” The temporary irritation practically disappeared from your face when you heard him, trying not to laugh at how that sounded like the end of the world to him. “Stupid movies? Geez... Do you still love me or am I stupid too?”

You slumped down on the couch, looking up to find his face still sour, it'd have been better to have talked about anything but the movies. “I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that.” It was even sincere, but you knew he'd only accept the apology if you said you'd make it up to him—which in a nutshell meant doing what he wanted even when you said you wouldn't. “And I'll make it up to you, okay?”

Yeah, magic words, he smiled when you said them, sitting down next to you and hugging you from the side. “So... We're gonna watch Friday the 13th. Then, you help me with... Whatever it was you were explaining to me about calculus.” Nothing was more Randy Meeks than this, absolutely nothing.
