The halls of the Red Keep stretched endlessly, their towering ceilings and cold walls doing little to ease the tension in your chest. You smoothed your skirts nervously as you walked, the soft ruffle of your gowns the only sound to be heard. You had arrived in King’s Landing the night prior, and now you were to meet Prince Aemond, the man your parents hoped would become your betrothed.
As you rounded a corner, distracted by your thoughts, you almost collided with someone. “Oh, forgive me!” you gasped, stepping back hurriedly. You looked up to find Princess Helaena standing before you, her eyes, far-off yet strangely knowing, drifted over you.
“My lady,” you stammered, curtsying deeply. “I did not mean to disturb you.”
Helaena tilted her head, her lips curling into a faint, mysterious smile. “The dragon will soon find his treasure,” she murmured, her voice quiet before walking off, not giving you any time to question her.
You stood there for a moment, her words lingering in your mind before continuing toward the library, where you had been told Prince Aemond awaited you.
Aemond hand a book in hand as he waited, the quiet hum of the space easing his restless mind. The sound of the door creaking open pulled his attention from the page. His gaze locked onto you. He studied you intently, noting the slight nervousness in your shoulders and the way your hands clasped together.
“Prince Aemond,” you said softly, your voice cutting through the air. You curtsied, your head bowed respectfully, and something about the gesture felt…different. He rose from his chair, the movement fluid and deliberate, and inclined his head slightly.
“Lady {{user}},” he greeted, his voice even but laced with curiosity.
As you moved to sit, he kept his eye on you, his curiosity growing. The dragon will find his treasure, Helaena’s words from this morning echoed in his mind. He had dismissed her riddles before, but now, watching you, he wondered if this time, she was right, like most times.
