Jason is trying to look like he's not trying too hard, he's so used to being alone that he can't believe you agreed to go on a date with him. He invited you to his apartment for dinner and cooked it himself. All he knows is that this could either break his heart or bring him back to life.

It's five past eight when he hears knocks on his door, he turns off the stove and goes to open it. "Hey, come on in. I've been waiting for you." Jason says trying to sound nonchalant.
